Carved Teak Pooja Mandir with Marble Platform

This is a floor-standing pooja mandir in solid teak, finished in a dark walnut polish, built around a marble deity platform. The canopy is a carved arch carried on turned pillars with elephant brackets at their heads, topped by a pierced crest of scrollwork cut clean through the timber. Behind the platform, the back panel carries an Om motif worked in gold on a pale ground and framed so it sits behind the deities without crowding them.

The marble slab forms the top of a base cabinet that holds two carved cupboard doors and two drawers, giving closed storage for thalis, larger samagri and smaller daily items separately. The whole piece stands on a carved plinth with claw feet. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the height, the width, the storage layout, the back panel motif and the finish are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Why the Deity Platform Is Marble

The surface directly beneath the deities is the hardest working part of any mandir. Diyas are set down hot on it, ghee runs across it, water is offered and wiped away, and camphor is lit on it. Setting a marble slab into that position gives you a surface that takes all of it in its stride: marble is unaffected by lamp heat, it does not absorb oil, and it wipes clean with a damp cloth in seconds. Years of daily puja leave it looking the same as the day it was fitted.

Marble is also the material used underfoot and underhand throughout temple building, for exactly these reasons, so it belongs here rather than being borrowed from somewhere else. The way it is fitted matters too. It is a set-in slab rather than a bonded surface, which means that if you ever want to change the stone or refresh it decades from now, it lifts out and a new one goes in without disturbing a single piece of the carved woodwork around it. That is a repair path built into the design from the start, and it is one of the reasons this mandir is made to last generations.

Packing Marble, Pierced Carving and a Cabinet Together

Three different fragilities travel in one delivery here. The marble slab is heavy, rigid and brittle: supported evenly it is safe, but any point load or flexing across its span will crack it, so it travels separately from the woodwork, laid flat on a full-bearing bed with edge protection at all four corners rather than being fitted into the cabinet for the journey. It is set into place at installation instead.

The pierced crest is the opposite problem, light and unsupported, so it is bedded into foam cut around the cut-through sections with nothing resting on the openwork and a rigid guard over its highest points. The base cabinet is the heavy component and is crated on its plinth with doors and drawers immobilised so they cannot swing or slide and mark the interior. The turned pillars and elephant brackets are individually wrapped, and the dark polished surfaces are faced across their whole area, since a scratch shows plainly on a dark polish. Everything is rigid-crated and strapped. Dent-free, uncracked and unscratched, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India, and Installing It

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins once your specification is confirmed, since nothing is held in stock, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, raise the date at enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met rather than accepting the order and disappointing you.

Our team assembles the mandir in position and sets the marble slab into the base cabinet on site, which is why the piece is not simply left at your door. Choose the position before delivery day, because once the marble is seated and the cabinet is loaded the mandir is not something you will want to move: traditionally it is placed in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight. Measure your doorway and stair turns against the full height including the crest, and tell us at enquiry if access is tight.

What Is Covered on This Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are warranted for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a mandir with a base cabinet the joinery that works hardest is in the carcass and the doors, since cupboard doors are opened daily and hinges pull against the frame every time. Those joints are cut and pinned into solid teak rather than screwed into board, and they are covered for the full term. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber, so the protection lasts as long as the wood does.

The polish, the marble and the painted back panel are all serviceable surfaces, which is a strength of how this piece is built. A marble slab can be lifted and replaced without touching the carving around it. A polished surface can be cut back and rebuilt in place rather than stripped. The back panel can be refreshed or changed for a different motif entirely. We do all of this for our own mandirs at an honest price whenever you would like it done, so the piece stays exactly as you want it for its whole life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Because that surface takes hot diyas, spilt ghee, water offerings and daily wiping, and marble handles all of it. It is unaffected by lamp heat, does not absorb oil and wipes clean in seconds. It is also set in rather than bonded, so it can be lifted and replaced decades later without disturbing the carving.

Yes. The back panel can carry a different symbol, a deity image, a plain book-matched teak panel, a mirrored panel or a marble insert. Tell us what your family observes and we will make the panel to suit.

The two cupboards take thalis, larger samagri boxes, a bell and books; the two drawers are sized for daily items such as agarbatti, matches, wicks and kumkum. If you would like a different split, more drawers or a deeper cabinet, we build it to your requirement.

Dust the carving with a dry soft brush and wipe flat surfaces with a barely damp cloth. The darker tone carries lamp smoke discolouration very well over the years, which is one of the reasons it is a popular choice for a mandir, and the polish can be refreshed in place whenever you like.

Yes, and many families choose them for dust protection or to close the mandir at night. We design ventilation into the carcass when we fit doors so air keeps moving, and jaali lattice doors are a lovely option here, giving protection with completely free airflow.

Send us the height of your tallest deity including base and crown, along with the space available. We size the platform and canopy clearance around your murtis and confirm every dimension in writing before production begins.

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance charge. Our team assembles the mandir in position and seats the marble slab on site, so it arrives fully set up and ready for you to place the deities.
