Three Bay Carved Teak Mandir with Jaali Panels

This is a wide floor-standing mandir in solid teak, divided into three bays by turned columns, each bay set beneath its own carved dome and finished with its own carved pelmet across the opening. The centre bay is taller and deeper than the two beside it and carries the largest dome, so the arrangement has a clear principal position rather than three of equal weight. A kalash finial caps each dome.

The side panels are cut as jaali lattice rather than left solid, so air moves through the piece and lamp smoke does not settle under the canopies. Along the base, three drawers hold puja samagri above a deep carved apron on claw feet, and the back panels are plain book-matched teak so the wood sits quietly behind the deities. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the width, the number of bays, the drawer layout and the finish are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Three Bays, and Jaali That Lets the Air Move

Families who keep more than one group of deities, a kuldevta alongside the deities of daily worship, or figures brought back from pilgrimage, know how much difference a defined place makes. Three bays under three domes give each group its own space with a column marking the boundary, and because the centre bay is taller and deeper than the flanking two, there is a clear principal position at the heart of the piece. It is the arrangement a temple uses, brought to a scale that lives in a home.

The jaali panels at the sides are a working detail as much as an ornamental one. Lattice cut through solid teak lets air pass through the mandir, which keeps the timber above three sets of lamps clean and fresh year after year. Cutting jaali by hand is slow, since each opening is worked individually and the bars between them are narrow, and it is one of the details that tells you the piece was made rather than assembled. Every element here is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs show the actual mandir.

Crating a Wide Mandir With Three Domes

Width is the main risk here. A wide piece picked up at its two ends puts all the stress into the centre of the horizontal rails, exactly where the tallest dome sits, so this mandir is crated on a full-length rigid bed that supports the base along its entire span rather than at its corners. It never rests on the domes; the load runs through the plinth at all times.

The three domes and their kalash finials stand at the highest points and are the first things to meet a doorframe. Each finial is individually wrapped and rigid-guarded, and a frame guard bridges above the whole roofline so nothing touches the turnings. The jaali side panels are the fragile flat components: lattice has very little material between its openings, so each panel is protected by a rigid board standing clear of its face rather than by foam pressed into the cut-outs. Drawers are secured against sliding, and dark polished surfaces are faced across their full area since scratches show plainly on a dark polish. Dent-free, with the jaali and every finial intact, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India on This Made-to-Order Mandir

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins after your specification is confirmed, since nothing is held in stock, and we give you a realistic completion window then. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, raise the date at enquiry and we will say honestly whether it can be met rather than accepting the order and missing it.

This is one of the wider pieces we make, so measure before you commit: the full width against your lift and any corridor turn, and the full height including the centre finial against your doorways. Tell us at enquiry if access is tight and the canopy and base can be built to separate. Our team assembles and levels the mandir in position. Decide the placement beforehand, since it is not a piece you will want to move: traditionally it sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight.

Warranty on This Three Bay Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a wide mandir the members that matter are the horizontal rails carrying three domes across the full width, and the joints where the dividing columns meet them. Those are cut and pinned rather than screwed, and they are covered for the full term. The jaali panels are cut through the timber and are covered against manufacturing failure rather than impact, which is the fair distinction on lattice work.

The polish is a wearing surface and sits outside the structural warranty, as does smoke darkening under the domes, which is a consequence of daily use rather than a fault, and which the jaali ventilation reduces considerably without eliminating. We refinish the piece at any point in its life at an honest price, and because there is no paint on it a polished surface can be cut back and rebuilt in place rather than stripped. Keep the mandir indoors, away from standing water and prolonged direct sun, and do not modify the frame yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Because it gives each group of deities its own defined place rather than a single shared row. The taller, deeper centre bay creates a clear principal position, which mirrors how a temple is arranged and makes the whole piece easier to live with day to day.

Yes. The layout is built to your requirement, and we lay out the domes, columns and pelmets fresh for your width rather than repeating a standard module. Tell us which deities you keep and how you like them grouped and we will propose a layout.

Airflow. Lattice cut through the side panels lets air move through the mandir, so smoke from lamps and agarbatti disperses and the timber above stays clean. It is a working detail that also happens to be one of the most beautiful pieces of craft on the piece.

Dust them with a dry soft brush worked through from both faces. Because the lattice is cut clean through, it collects less dust than deep relief carving does and keeps its crispness for decades with very little attention.

Yes, and on a three bay mandir it is a popular choice, since three sets of lamps mean more ghee and heat across the platform. Marble takes all of it and wipes clean. Specify it before production so the platform is framed to receive the slab.

They run the full width of the base and are sized for daily samagri: agarbatti, wicks, kumkum, matches and small containers. If you would like cupboards for thalis and larger items as well, we build those into the base to order.

Send us the wall width and height available along with your doorway, lift and stair measurements, and we will build the piece to come in comfortably. Delivery is free anywhere in India, our team assembles and levels it in position, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.
