Walk-In Carved Teak Pooja Room Installation

This is a room-scale temple in solid teak rather than a freestanding mandir. A raised timber floor forms the threshold, clustered carved columns rise from it in banded registers to carry the roofline, and cusped arches open the side bays with low turned railings enclosing them. At the centre, a pair of doors cut as dense jaali closes the inner sanctum, so the shrine itself can be shut while the surrounding structure stays open.

Five domes rise along the roofline with the largest over the sanctum, each capped with a finial, above a carved cornice running the full width. Because this is built to your room rather than to a standard size, the ceiling height sets the dome height, the wall width sets the column spacing and the depth of the raised floor sets the approach. A site survey is carried out before anything is cut, and every dimension is confirmed to you in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the installation, delivery across India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

A Temple Sequence, Built Into Your Home

A temple is not one space but a journey through several. You ascend to it, you pass between columns and under an arch, and only then do you arrive before the sanctum. That sequence, ascend, pass through, arrive, is what makes a temple feel like a temple, and it is what this installation brings into a home. The raised floor puts the ground you stand on above the ground you came from, the clustered columns and cusped arches frame the approach, and the jaali doors mark the sanctum itself.

Building it means working the way an architectural joiner works: to a real ceiling, a real floor and a real wall, with every dimension drawn from your room. That is why each commission begins with a site survey and a drawing rather than with a catalogue size, and it is why no two of these are the same. The carving is done by hand by master Indian artisans exactly as on our smaller mandirs; what changes is that the whole composition is proportioned to the space it will live in. The result is an installation that feels built-in rather than placed, from the day it is finished.

Specifications: Walk-In Teak Pooja Room

The installation as photographed is described below. Every dimension is set by your room, so treat these as elements rather than sizes.

  • Material and carving: solid teak wood, hand-carved and hand-polished by master Indian artisans
  • Type: walk-in room installation, built to site dimensions following a survey
  • Floor: raised timber platform forming the threshold and approach
  • Columns: clustered carved columns in banded registers from base to capital
  • Openings: cusped arches to the side bays, with low turned railings enclosing them
  • Sanctum: closed by a pair of doors cut as dense jaali lattice
  • Roofline: five domes with the largest over the sanctum, each capped with a finial, over a carved cornice
  • Finish: honey teak polish, grain visible throughout, no paint
  • Options: marble sanctum floor, alternative door treatment, integrated lighting, storage built into the side bays, scaled-down versions
  • Finish options: honey as shown, or natural teak, mid teak, walnut, dark teak, or gold-highlighted carving
  • Dimensions: set entirely by your room; confirmed in writing after site survey and before production
  • Warranty: 20 years on solid teak and joinery; lifetime cover against termite damage
  • Delivery: free across India, with on-site assembly and installation

Shipping a Structure in Sections

Nothing on this installation travels assembled. The columns, the roofline sections, the domes, the doors, the railings and the floor deck are crated separately, each on a bed cut to its own profile, and the whole shipment is sequenced so that pieces are unloaded in the order they are installed rather than being unpacked into a room at once. On a job of this size that sequencing matters as much as the padding.

The jaali sanctum doors are the most delicate components and travel as our lattice work always does: protected by rigid boards standing clear of both faces so nothing presses into the openings. The five domes and their finials are individually wrapped and guarded. Column sections are wrapped along their full length, with the carved capitals and bases contour-padded. Floor deck boards are packed flat and face-protected, since a scratch across a polished floor board is visible from every angle in the finished room. Everything arrives dent-free, unscratched and with the lattice intact, or we make it right.

Survey, Build and Installation Across India

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge. The sequence on this commission is different from our other pieces and worth understanding before you enquire. First a site survey: we measure the room, check the floor level, the ceiling height, the wall plumb and the position of any services, and confirm whether the space suits the installation at all. Then a drawing and a written specification with every dimension. Only then does production begin, and only after that does anything ship.

Assembly is carried out on site by our team over several days rather than in a single delivery visit. Because the structure is built around your room, plan the room first: traditionally the mandir faces so the deities look west or east and the person performing puja faces east or north, and the space should be away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight. If you are working towards a griha pravasa, a festival or a specific muhurat, raise the date at the survey stage. On a commission of this scale we will tell you honestly and early whether a date is achievable.

Warranty on a Fitted Installation

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from installation, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a fitted structure the warranty covers what we make and install: the columns, the roofline, the raised floor deck, the doors and every joint between them. What it cannot cover is the building. If your slab is uneven, your wall is out of plumb or moisture is reaching the structure through the floor or an adjoining wall, that is a building condition rather than a fault in our work, and the survey exists precisely to identify those before we build rather than after.

The polish is a wearing surface and sits outside the structural warranty, as is smoke darkening on the sanctum interior. On a walk-in installation the raised floor also takes foot traffic, which no other mandir we make does, so it will show wear at the threshold over the years; that is use rather than a defect. Polished timber can be cut back and rebuilt in place, so a worn floor is refinished without dismantling anything. We do that at any point in the life of the installation at an honest price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

It is a room-scale installation rather than a single piece of furniture. You step up onto a raised floor, walk between columns under cusped arches, and arrive at a sanctum that closes with its own jaali doors. It turns a room into a temple room.

Yes, and every commission starts with one. We measure the room, check floor level, ceiling height and wall plumb, and note the position of any services, then draw the installation around your space and confirm every dimension in writing before anything is cut.

We proportion the domes and cornice to whatever height you have, so the installation always sits comfortably under your ceiling. Send us your ceiling height with the room dimensions and we will show you how the composition will look in your space.

Yes. The same elements, raised floor, clustered columns, cusped arches and jaali sanctum doors, are built at whatever scale suits the room, including a shallow alcove version that gives the full temple sequence in a compact space.

So the sanctum closes while air keeps moving through it, which keeps the interior fresh year after year. Lamplight also glows out through the jaali when the doors are shut, which is one of the loveliest effects in the whole installation.

Yes to both. Cupboards and drawers integrate into the side bays and concealed lighting runs within the structure. Both are designed in at the drawing stage so they sit invisibly within the carving.

Everything ships in sections and our team assembles it on site over several days, so it comes into the room comfortably regardless of doorway width. Delivery is free anywhere in India, and we hand it over complete and ready for you to place the deities.
