Compact Carved Teak Mandir with Domed Shikhar

This is a compact open mandir in solid teak, crowned by a single ribbed dome rising to a kalash finial with a turned finial standing at each front corner. Beneath the carved cornice, a deep foliate pelmet spans the opening, and rope-twist columns carry the canopy on carved animal bases. The canopy is open at the front and both sides, so air moves freely around the deities and lamp smoke rises away.

The back is a plain field of book-matched teak with the grain running vertically, keeping the space behind the deities calm, and the platform is left clear for the murtis and the day's offerings. Two drawers sit in the base above a carved apron, on small carved feet that lift the piece clear of the floor. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the size, the finish, the storage and options such as a marble platform or a wall-mounted version are agreed with you before production and every dimension confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Carving With a Light Hand

Not every mandir needs to fill a wall. This one is built for the quieter place in a home: a bedroom, a study corner, the end of a hallway, or a compact puja space where the piece is seen close up rather than from across a room. At that distance a lighter hand reads better, so the carving is gathered where it does the most work and the rest is left calm.

It sits in the ribbed dome and its finials, in the deep foliate pelmet across the opening, and in the carved apron and drawer fronts at the base. Between those two bands the mandir is quiet: rope-twist columns, a clear platform, and a back of book-matched teak with the grain running vertically behind the deities. Choosing boards for that back panel takes care, since a plain surface shows exactly the quality of the timber and nothing else, and it is the part of this mandir people run a hand over. Everything is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs on this page show the actual piece.

Protecting the Dome and Twist Columns

The ribbed dome, its kalash finial and the two corner finials stand at the highest points, so a rigid frame guard bridges above the whole roofline and each finial is individually wrapped beneath it. The mandir is carried on its base throughout, so no load ever runs through the dome.

The rope-twist columns are wrapped along their length and fitted with half-round guards that follow the outer diameter without pressing into the spiral grooves, and the carved animal bases beneath them are contour-padded. The deep foliate pelmet is relieved in the foam so nothing bears on the raised carving, and the book-matched back panel is faced across its full area with a soft non-abrasive layer, since a plain polished field shows its quality from every angle. Drawers are secured against sliding. Everything is rigid-crated and strapped, and your mandir arrives dent-free with the carving crisp and the panel unmarked.

Free Delivery Across India on This Made-to-Order Mandir

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight, and being a compact piece this one comes into a home very easily. Production begins once your specification is confirmed and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, tell us the date at enquiry and we will plan the build around it.

Our team places and levels the mandir in position, so it arrives ready for you to set the deities. Share your doorway measurements at enquiry along with the space available and we will build the piece to suit. Traditionally the mandir sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight, and our team will help you position it to suit whatever your household observes.

Warranty on This Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. The rope-twist columns carry the canopy and the dome above it, and they are turned from stock selected for straight continuous grain so the spiral stays strong along its full length. Columns, joints, carcass and drawers are all covered for the full term, and termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber.

The polish is a serviceable surface and one of the easiest to keep beautiful. Because this mandir is polished rather than painted, the finish can be cut back and rebuilt in place at any point without stripping the piece, so it can be brought back to new whenever you wish, and we do that for our own mandirs at an honest price. The open canopy keeps air moving so lamp smoke rises away, and regular dusting with a soft brush is usually all the carving asks of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

A bedroom, a study corner, the end of a hallway or a compact puja space, anywhere it will be seen close up. The lighter carving reads beautifully at that distance, and the small footprint leaves the room feeling open.

Very well. With the canopy open at the front and both sides, air moves freely and smoke rises away rather than gathering under the dome, so the timber above the deities stays clean with occasional dusting.

Yes. They carry the canopy and the dome above it, turned from stock selected for straight continuous grain so the spiral stays strong along its whole length, and they are covered by the 20-year frame warranty.

They are sized for daily samagri: agarbatti, wicks, matches, kumkum and small containers. If you would like additional drawers or a cupboard for thalis and larger items, we build them into the base to order.

Yes, and it is a popular choice. Marble takes hot diyas, ghee and water offerings in its stride and wipes clean in seconds. Specify it before production so the platform is framed to receive the slab.

Yes to both, in the same carving and finish. A wall-mounted version frees the floor entirely, and a tabletop version suits a chest or a console. Tell us which you would like and we will build it to your dimensions.

Any size that suits your space. Send us the height of your deities including base and crown along with the space available, and we will scale the mandir around them and confirm every dimension in writing before production.
