Four Pillar Mandapa Temple in Carved Teak

This is a floor-standing wooden temple for the home in solid teak, built as a four-pillar mandapa with genuine front-to-back depth beneath the canopy rather than a flat niche. Along the roofline, a carved frieze band picked out in gold carries a row of turned kalash finials, with a larger finial capping each corner post. The four square pillars are carved on their visible faces with gold worked into the recesses, and the canopy is open at the front and sides so lamp and agarbatti smoke can rise and disperse.

A marble slab forms the deity platform and the working surface, set over a base cabinet holding two carved cupboard doors either side of three drawers, on a carved plinth with claw feet. Every Brown Rabbit temple is made to order, so the height, the width, the depth, the storage layout and the finish are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery are warranted for 20 years, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Depth Is What a Mandapa Gives You

A temple in stone is not one space but several: the sanctum where the principal deity stands, and in front of it the mandapa, a pillared hall where people gather. This mandir brings that second space home. Four pillars set on a deeper platform give the canopy genuine front-to-back depth, and that depth is what lets you arrange deities the way families actually like to: principal figures forward and centred, smaller murtis and framed photographs set behind and to the sides at a slight rise, and a diya and thali standing comfortably on the platform itself.

The roofline follows the same architectural logic. Above a mandapa in stone sits a flat cornice with a carved frieze and a row of kalash finials, and that is exactly what crowns this piece, rather than the single dome that belongs over a sanctum. The result is a mandir that reads as architecture from across the room and gives you room to arrange within it up close. Every element is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs on this page show the actual piece.

Crating a Row of Finials and a Wide Canopy

The row of turned finials along the roofline is the most exposed element on this temple and the one that dictates how it travels. Each finial stands proud at the highest point of the piece, and there are several of them rather than one, so a single careless lift under a low doorframe could take out three at once. The whole cornice travels with a rigid frame guard standing clear above the finial line, so anything that comes into contact with the crate touches the guard and not the turnings, and each finial is individually wrapped beneath it.

The canopy spans further than on a two-pillar mandir, so it is braced across its width to stop the frame racking, and the four pillars are wrapped and guarded along their full length. The marble slab travels separately, laid flat on a full-bearing bed with corner protection, and is set into place at installation rather than riding inside the cabinet. The base cabinet is crated on its plinth with doors and drawers immobilised. Dark polished surfaces are faced across their whole area, since scratches show plainly on a dark polish. Dent-free, uncracked and with every finial intact, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India and On-Site Assembly

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins after your specification is confirmed, since nothing is held in stock, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, raise the date at enquiry and we will say honestly whether it is achievable rather than accepting the order and missing it.

This is a larger piece than a wall or niche mandir, so plan for it. Our team assembles it in position, seats the marble slab and levels the plinth on site. Measure the full height including the finials against your doorways and any stair turn, and the width against your lift, then tell us at enquiry if access is tight so the canopy and cabinet can be built to separate. Decide the position before delivery day: traditionally the mandir is placed in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight, which fades a polish.

Warranty on This Wooden Temple

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a four-pillar design the joints that carry the load are where the pillars meet the cornice above and the platform below, and they are doing more work than on a two-pillar niche because the canopy spans further and carries the weight of the frieze and finials. Those joints are cut and pinned rather than screwed, and they are covered for the full term. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils in the timber, not through a coating.

The polish, the gold detailing in the carved recesses, and the marble sit outside the structural warranty, as all three are wearing surfaces. Gold worked into recesses softens where it is touched or wiped repeatedly, and marble can be marked by prolonged contact with strong acids such as lemon. Neither is a manufacturing fault. We refinish the woodwork, restore the gold detail and replace the marble slab at any point in the life of the piece at an honest price. Keep the temple indoors, away from standing water and prolonged direct sun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Comfortably more than a single-niche mandir. The front-to-back depth lets principal figures sit forward and centred with smaller murtis and photographs arranged behind and to the sides, and leaves room on the platform for a lamp and thali. Send us your list at enquiry and we will size it around what you keep.

Depth. Two pillars give a flat niche where everything lines up against the back panel; four pillars on a deeper platform create a covered volume you can arrange within, with a clear hierarchy from front to back. It is the closest a home mandir comes to a real temple mandapa.

Because the two crown different parts of a temple. A dome sits above the sanctum; a flat cornice with a carved frieze and a row of kalash finials sits above the mandapa, the pillared hall. This piece is a mandapa, so it carries the roofline that belongs to one.

It is a hand-applied gold finish worked into the carved recesses of the frieze and pillars. Genuine gold leaf can be specified as an upgrade and we quote it separately. A plain polish with no gold is also available if you prefer the carving to speak on its own.

Yes. The back can be left as plain book-matched teak as shown, or fitted with a carved panel, a deity or Om motif, a mirror insert or a marble panel. A plain back keeps attention on the deities and wipes clean easily, which is why it is the default here.

The photographs show the temple styled with murtis to give a sense of scale. Tell us the height of yours including base and crown at enquiry and we will size the platform and canopy clearance around them.

Send us the full height available and your doorway and stair measurements, and we will build the piece to come in comfortably. Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance charge, our team assembles it and seats the marble on site, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.
