Tall Carved Teak Mandir Cabinet with Doors

This is a tall, narrow mandir in solid teak that closes with a pair of carved doors, giving a full-height interior on a very small floor footprint. The doors carry inlaid panels, Om and trishul above and swastika and a kalash motif below, worked in a pale inlay that reads clearly against the teak without paint, and small bells hang at intervals down the door stiles. Turned columns flank the doors on both sides.

Above, the shikhar steps up in tiers to a row of turned finials, with a carved cornice and figures beneath it. The base holds a cupboard alongside three drawers, so larger samagri and thalis are stored as well as daily items. The carcass is vented at the back and above so lamp smoke is not sealed against the wood when the doors are closed. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the height, the width, the inlay motifs, the storage layout and the finish are agreed before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery across India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

A Door That Closes Without Sealing

Closing a mandir gives you a great deal. It keeps the dust of a shared room off the deities, it lets the shrine be shut when the household is away, and it suits families who close the mandir at night as a matter of practice. What makes this design work so well is that it does all of that while keeping air moving: the carcass is vented at the back and above the canopy, so there is a continuous path for air even with the doors shut, and the interior stays fresh and clean year after year.

The inlay on the doors is worked in a pale material set into routed recesses in the teak rather than painted on the surface, so the symbols keep their crisp edges for the life of the piece. Each recess is cut individually, each piece fitted, and the whole panel then levelled and polished flush, which is why the inlay reads as part of the wood rather than as something applied to it. The small bells hanging down the door stiles catch the light as the doors move. Every element is carved, inlaid and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs show the actual mandir.

Packing Doors, Bells and Inlay

Doors are the components most likely to be damaged in transit on a cabinet, because a door that swings free during a journey will batter its own hinges and the carcass around it. Both doors are secured closed and additionally braced against the carcass so there is no movement at all, and the hanging bells on the door stiles are individually wrapped so they cannot swing and strike the inlay beside them, which is exactly the kind of small repeated impact that chips an inlaid panel over a long road journey.

The stepped shikhar and its row of finials stand at the highest point, so a frame guard bridges above the whole roofline and each finial is wrapped beneath it. The inlaid door panels are faced with a soft non-abrasive layer across their full area rather than only edge-guarded, since inlay sits flush with the timber and a scuff across it is immediately visible. Base drawers and the cupboard door are immobilised. The whole cabinet is crated on its base so no load runs through the shikhar. Dent-free, with the inlay unmarked and every bell in place, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India on This Made-to-Order Mandir

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins after your specification is confirmed, since nothing is held in stock. Inlay adds time to the build, because each recess has to be routed and each piece fitted individually before the whole panel is levelled and polished, so this is not among our quickest pieces. We give you a realistic completion window at sign-off and will say honestly at enquiry if a fixed date such as a griha pravesh or a festival cannot be met.

This is the easiest of our mandirs to bring into a flat, since it is narrow and tall rather than wide, but measure the full height including the finials against your doorways and lift, as height is the constraint here rather than width. Our team assembles and levels it in position and checks the doors close true, which matters on a tall cabinet standing on an uneven floor. Decide the placement beforehand: traditionally the mandir sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight.

Warranty on a Doored Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. On a cabinet mandir the doors and hinges work hardest, being opened and closed daily for decades, so the hinge stiles are solid teak rather than board and the joints are cut and pinned. All of it is covered for the full term, and the inlay is covered against lifting or loss from manufacturing fault.

The polish is a serviceable surface, which is one of the advantages of a polished piece over a painted one: it can be cut back and rebuilt in place, inside and out, at any point in the life of the mandir, so it can be brought back to new whenever you wish. We do that for our own pieces at an honest price. The vented carcass keeps the interior fresh with the doors closed, and an occasional wipe of the interior faces with a dry cloth keeps it that way. Keep the mandir indoors, out of prolonged direct sun, and it will need very little from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Because in a flat the puja space usually shares a room with something else. Doors keep the room's dust off the deities, let you close the mandir when the household is away, and suit families who close it at night as a matter of practice.

The carcass is vented at the back and above the canopy, so air keeps moving through the piece with the doors shut. Leaving the doors open for a while after aarti helps too, and an occasional wipe of the interior faces with a dry cloth keeps everything looking new.

It is a pale inlay set into recesses routed into the teak and levelled flush, not paint or a printed transfer. Because it sits within the wood rather than on top of it, it keeps its crisp edges for the life of the piece, and it is covered under the frame warranty.

Yes. The Om, trishul, swastika and kalash shown can be replaced with other symbols, a deity motif, or plain carved panels. Tell us what your household observes and we will make the doors to suit.

They are decorative and hang from the door stiles, catching the light as the doors move. If you would like a proper ghanti mounted within the mandir we can build a bracket for one, and we make the doors plain if you prefer them without bells.

It suits one beautifully. It is tall and narrow rather than wide, so it takes very little floor area while giving full height inside. Send us your available space and doorway measurements and we will size it to come in comfortably.

Yes to both. Jaali lattice doors give dust protection with completely free airflow and let the deities show through. Glass keeps them fully visible while shut. Tell us your preference at enquiry and we will build accordingly.
