Carved Teak Mandir with Raised Singhasan

This is a floor-standing mandir in solid teak, finished in a pale natural polish, built around a carved singhasan that projects forward from the back panel at the centre. The throne raises the principal deity above and slightly in front of the others, with a canopied hood carved above it and a moulded seat beneath, carved as one with the panel so it belongs to the architecture of the piece.

The side panels are cut as jaali lattice, keeping air moving freely through the mandir, and the crest above rises in pierced foliage to a crown flanked by carved side spires. Turned columns with carved capitals frame the opening. Below, a deep base carries two drawers over two carved rosette cupboards between carved pilasters, on claw feet. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the singhasan height, the storage layout, the finish and options such as a marble platform are agreed with you before production and every dimension confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Enthroning the Principal Deity

In a temple the principal deity is not simply placed among the others; the deity is enthroned, raised on a singhasan within the sanctum so that everything else in the space refers to that one position. Most home mandirs give you a flat platform and leave the arrangement to you, which works, but nothing on the piece itself declares where the centre is. Carving a throne into the back panel does exactly that. The seat projects forward at the centre with a canopied hood above it, so the principal deity sits raised and slightly proud of the rest, and the whole composition resolves around it.

Carving it as one with the back panel rather than making a separate stand is what keeps it looking right. The hood, the seat and the panel behind flow into each other, so the throne reads as built rather than added. Because it is carved to order, we cut the seat height and the hood clearance to your own principal deity, including base and crown, so the figure sits within it as though the two were made together. The jaali side panels keep air moving through the mandir, and everything is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans.

Protecting a Projecting Throne and Jaali Panels

The singhasan projects forward from the back panel, which makes it the most exposed carved element inside the mandir. It travels contour-packed, with foam cut around the hood and the seat so the padding supports the panel behind and the projecting throne carries nothing at all, and a rigid guard is fitted over its outermost point.

The jaali side panels are protected the way all our lattice work is, by rigid boards standing clear of their faces rather than by packing pressed into the openings, so nothing touches the bars. The pierced crest and the carved side spires stand at the highest points, so a frame guard bridges above the whole roofline with each element wrapped beneath it. The deep base is crated on its own plinth with drawers and cupboard doors immobilised, and the pale polished surfaces are faced across their full area. Everything is rigid-crated and strapped, and your mandir arrives dent-free with the singhasan, the jaali and the crest all intact.

Free Delivery Across India and On-Site Setup

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins once your specification is confirmed, including the height of your principal deity so the singhasan is carved to suit it, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, tell us the date at enquiry and we will plan the build around it.

The mandir arrives with the canopy and base as separate sections and our team assembles and levels it in position, which brings it into the room comfortably. Share your doorway, lift and stair measurements at enquiry along with the space available. Traditionally the mandir sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight, and our team will help you position it to suit whatever your household observes.

Warranty on This Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. The singhasan projects forward from the back panel and carries the weight of the principal deity, so it is carved from the same stock as the panel and framed behind rather than fixed on, which is what keeps it solid for decades. The deep base carcass, its cupboard doors and drawers are all cut and pinned into solid teak and covered for the full term, and termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber.

The polish is a serviceable surface and one of the easiest to keep looking fresh. Because this mandir is polished rather than painted, the finish can be cut back and rebuilt in place at any point without stripping the piece, so a pale natural tone stays bright decade after decade, and we do that for our own mandirs at an honest price. The jaali sides keep air moving through the piece so lamp smoke rises away, and regular dusting with a soft brush keeps the carving crisp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

A throne for the deity. Here it is carved into the back panel and projects forward at the centre with a canopied hood above and a moulded seat beneath, so the principal deity sits raised and slightly proud of the others, exactly as a deity is enthroned in a temple.

We carve it to suit. Send us the height and width of your principal deity including base and crown, and the seat height and hood clearance are cut around that figure so it sits within the throne as though the two were made together.

Yes. We build the same mandir with a flat platform and a plain or carved back panel if you would prefer to arrange the deities yourself. Tell us at enquiry and we will draw it that way.

Airflow. Lattice cut clean through the sides lets air move freely through the mandir, so smoke from lamps and agarbatti rises away and the timber above stays clean. They are also one of the most beautiful pieces of craft on the piece.

A great deal. Two drawers take daily items such as agarbatti, wicks, matches and kumkum, and the two cupboards below are deep enough for thalis, larger samagri boxes, books and cloth. A different split or additional drawers can be built to order.

Dust the carving with a dry soft brush and wipe flat surfaces with a barely damp cloth. The jaali sides keep air moving so smoke rises away, and because the piece is polished rather than painted we can refresh the finish in place at any point.

Yes. Jaali lattice doors give dust protection with completely free airflow, and glass doors keep the deities fully visible while shut. We build whichever you would like, with ventilation designed into the carcass either way.
