Compact Carved Teak Mandir with Jaali Doors

This is a small floor-standing mandir in solid teak that closes with a pair of doors cut as full diamond jaali from edge to edge, so the entire front face stays open to airflow even when the mandir is shut. Carved arch pelmets sit above the doors, turned columns flank them, and the cornice frieze carries carved deity figures beneath a tiered shikhar topped by a row of turned finials.

A marble sill runs across the threshold beneath the doors, where diyas are most often set down, and two drawers in the base hold daily puja samagri, on turned bun feet. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the size, the finish, the storage layout and options such as a full marble platform or a wall-mounted version are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and the mandir is guaranteed to arrive dent-free.

Full Lattice, and Why It Suits a Compact Mandir So Well

Cutting both doors as jaali across their whole area makes the entire front face open to air while still giving you a mandir you can close. On a compact piece that is exactly the right combination: you get full dust protection and the ability to shut the shrine, and at the same time air moves through freely, so the interior stays fresh and the timber above the lamps keeps its colour year after year.

The scale is the other pleasure of this design. It suits a flat, a bedroom corner, a study wall or a second mandir in a guest room, and nothing is reduced except the size. The arch pelmets above the doors are carved, the cornice frieze carries carved deity figures, and the shikhar steps up in tiers to a row of turned finials exactly as on our largest pieces. A marble sill runs across the threshold beneath the doors, where lamps are most often set down, so that surface wipes clean in seconds. Everything is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans.

Protecting Two Full Lattice Doors

A door cut as lattice across its whole area has almost no continuous surface, which makes it the most delicate component in this shipment and rules out packing it the usual way. Each door is protected by a rigid board standing clear of its face, front and back, so no packing material ever presses into the diamonds, and both doors are secured closed and braced against the carcass so they cannot swing and batter their own hinges during the journey.

The marble sill travels separately, laid flat on a full-bearing bed with edge protection, and is seated at installation rather than riding in the piece. The tiered shikhar and its row of finials stand at the highest point, so a frame guard bridges above the roofline with each finial wrapped beneath it, and the carved deity figures in the cornice frieze are contour-padded so nothing bears on the relief. Drawers are immobilised. Because this is a small piece it is easy to handle, which is precisely when careless lifting happens, so the crate is sized to be carried by its base rather than its canopy. Dent-free, with the lattice unbroken, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India on This Made-to-Order Mandir

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight, and being a compact piece this is the easiest of our mandirs to bring into a flat. Production still takes time, because jaali across two full doors is slow work and a broken bar means remaking the door from fresh stock. We give you a realistic completion window once your specification is confirmed and will say honestly at enquiry if a fixed date such as a griha pravesh or a festival cannot be met.

Our team assembles the mandir in position, seats the marble sill and checks the doors close true, which matters on any cabinet standing on an uneven floor. Decide the placement in advance: traditionally the mandir sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight. If floor space is very tight, ask about the wall-mounted version of this design at enquiry, which frees the floor entirely but needs a solid wall for the fixing.

Warranty on This Compact Mandir

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. Each door is built with solid stiles at the hinge and closing edges rather than lattice running to the very margin, which is what keeps a jaali door hanging true over decades, and both the doors and their joints are covered for the full term. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils in the timber.

The polish and the marble sill are both serviceable surfaces. The sill lifts out and a new one goes in without disturbing the woodwork, and the polish can be cut back and rebuilt in place rather than stripped, so the mandir can be brought back to new at any point in its life. We do both for our own pieces at an honest price. The full lattice keeps air moving so the interior stays fresh with very little attention, and regular dusting is usually all this mandir asks of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Send us the height of your tallest deity including base and crown, along with the space you have. Because every piece is made to order we scale the opening and platform around your murtis, so the proportions come out right whatever you keep.

So the entire front face stays open to airflow while the mandir still closes. On a compact piece that keeps the interior beautifully fresh, and it lets lamplight glow out through the diamonds when the doors are shut.

Exactly the same. The jaali bars, the door stiles and the turned finials are all finer at this scale, which takes more care to execute, and it is the same solid teak, the same hand carving and the same 20-year frame warranty.

It runs across the threshold beneath the doors, where diyas are most often set down, so that surface takes lamp heat and ghee in its stride and wipes clean in seconds. A full marble platform inside can also be specified.

Yes, the same design is made as a wall-mounted mandir, which frees the floor entirely and suits a flat beautifully. Tell us your wall construction at enquiry and we will specify the right mounting.

Yes to both, and we build whichever you prefer. Jaali is the option that combines a closed front with completely free airflow, glass keeps the deities fully visible, and solid gives the most enclosed feel.

They are sized for daily items: agarbatti, wicks, matches, kumkum and small containers. If you would like a cupboard for thalis and larger samagri as well, we build one into the base to order.
