Solid Teak Wooden Mandir with Carved Dome

This is a floor-standing wooden mandir for the home, hand-carved from solid teak and finished in a natural polish that leaves the grain visible. A ribbed dome rises to a kalash finial at the crown, with a smaller finial at each front corner and a carved pelmet spanning the opening beneath. Two turned and fluted pillars carry the canopy, each with a carved bracket at its head, and the canopy is left open at the front and sides so diya and agarbatti smoke rises and disperses rather than collecting against the wood.

The deity platform is set at standing aarti height, with a plain book-matched teak back panel behind it, and two drawers below hold puja samagri. A carved plinth with claw feet raises the base clear of the floor. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the height, the width, the number of drawers and the finish are agreed with you before production and the exact dimensions confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

An Open Canopy, and Why It Keeps the Wood Clean

The canopy on this mandir is carried on pillars and left open at the front and both sides. That single decision is what keeps the underside of the shikhar looking as good in ten years as it does on the day it arrives. Diya and agarbatti smoke rises, and with an open canopy it keeps rising and disperses into the room instead of gathering against the wood a few inches above the flame. Families who have lived with this design tell us the difference plainly: the timber above the deities stays clean with nothing more than an occasional dusting.

The shikhar above is solid and carved, so the piece still reads as a temple from across the room, and it is set above an open volume rather than capping a sealed one. The back panel is deliberately plain book-matched teak, which lets the grain sit quietly behind the deities and keeps the surface easy to wipe. If you would like doors, we build them with ventilation designed into the carcass so the same airflow is preserved. Every one of these is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs on this page show the actual piece.

Protecting the Dome and Finials in Transit

The kalash finial at the top of the shikhar and the two corner finials are the components that decide how this piece has to be packed. They are turned and stand proud at the highest points, so they are the first things to meet a doorframe, a stair nose or a low ceiling during handling, and a snapped finial cannot be repaired invisibly. Each one is individually wrapped and fitted with a rigid guard, and the mandir never rests on its dome at any stage; the crate carries it on the plinth so the load runs through the base.

The carved pelmet and the pillar brackets are contour-padded so nothing bears on the raised carving, and the two turned pillars are guarded along their length. The natural polished surfaces, particularly the large flat back panel where a scratch would be obvious, are faced across their whole area with a soft non-abrasive layer rather than only edge-guarded. Drawers are secured so they cannot slide and mark the interior. The whole assembly goes into a rigid strapped crate. Your mandir arrives without a dent, a scratch or a chipped finial, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India and Setting It Up

Delivery is free anywhere in India, with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Because the mandir is made to order rather than held in stock, production begins after your specification is confirmed in writing, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a specific muhurat, raise the date at enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met rather than accepting the order and missing it.

The piece arrives assembled or in as few sections as the access allows, and our team places it where you want it. Decide the position before delivery day, since a mandir is rarely moved once installed: traditionally it is placed in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, and it should sit away from a bathroom wall, away from the head of a bed and out of direct sunlight, which fades a natural polish. Measure your doorway and any stair turn against the full height including the shikhar, and tell us at enquiry if access is tight so the piece can be built to break down.

Warranty on This Wooden Mandir

Brown Rabbit warrants the solid teak and its joinery for 20 years from delivery, and covers the piece against termite damage for its entire life with no expiry. A mandir spends decades in one position, usually against a wall with limited airflow behind it, and the lifetime termite cover is there so that risk sits with us rather than with you for as long as you own it. Teak resists termites through the oils in the timber rather than through a surface treatment, and every board is seasoned and treated before a carver touches it.

The polish is a wearing surface, and it is one of the easiest to look after. Because this mandir is polished rather than painted, the finish can be cut back and rebuilt in place at any point in its life without stripping the piece, which keeps it looking new decade after decade. We do that for our own mandirs at an honest price whenever you would like it refreshed. Keep the mandir indoors, away from standing water and prolonged direct sun, and it will need very little from you beyond regular dusting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

Traditionally the mandir is placed in the north-east of the home, with the deities facing west or east so that the person performing puja faces east or north. It is also usually kept away from bathroom walls and away from the head of a bed. Practice varies by family and region, so we build to suit whatever your household observes.

It arrives assembled, or in as few sections as your access allows, and our team places it for you. Share your doorway and staircase measurements at enquiry and we will engineer it to come in comfortably.

Very well. The canopy is open at the front and both sides, so smoke rises and disperses into the room instead of gathering under a closed roof. An occasional wipe of the canopy underside with a dry cloth is all it usually needs.

Send us the height of your tallest deity including its base and crown, along with the space you have. Because every mandir is made to order, we scale the platform and canopy clearance around your murtis and confirm every measurement in writing before production.

Yes, and many families like them for dust protection or to close the mandir at night. When we build doors we design ventilation into the carcass so the airflow this design is known for is preserved. Jaali lattice doors are a popular choice here, giving both protection and free air movement.

Yes, both, made to order in the same carving and finish. A wall-mounted mandir frees the floor entirely and suits apartments beautifully. Tell us your wall construction at enquiry so we specify the right mounting for it.

Dust the carving with a dry soft brush, and wipe flat surfaces with a barely damp cloth. Because the finish is a polish rather than paint, we can refresh it in place at any point in the life of the piece, so it can be brought back to new whenever you wish.
