A wooden throne chair in hand-carved solid teak with lion-head arms and a pierced oval back. Left in bare teak it suits rooms where gilding would be too much - a study, a library, a reception desk, a hall - while still carrying the presence of a throne form.

Master Indian artisans carve every element by hand from seasoned solid teak. The lion heads are worked in the round, the frame around the oval is pierced right through so light passes behind it, and the apron is cut and carved rather than simply moulded.

It is made to order. Choose the seat fabric, the finish tone, the seat width and the back height, and choose whether the oval panel stays plain or carries carving. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frame and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

Run a hand over the carving on this chair and every edge is sharp. That is because almost none of it has been sanded.

Sandpaper is the obvious way to finish wood, and on a flat surface it is the right one. On carving it is quietly destructive. Abrasive cuts fastest where pressure is highest, and pressure is always highest on the edges - so a few passes over a leaf takes the crisp line where two cuts meet and rounds it into a soft shoulder. Do that across a whole panel and the carving loses its snap; it reads soft and slightly melted, as though seen through water.

So our carvers finish from the tool. The last cut a gouge makes is the finished surface, taken with an edge sharpened to shave rather than scrape, so it leaves the wood burnished rather than torn. Sanding is confined to the flat areas - the oval panel, the seat rails, the plain sections of leg - where there are no arrises to lose.

It requires the carving to be right first time, because there is no abrasive stage to correct it in. That is the trade: more skill during, no rescue after - and a chair whose shadows have hard edges.

Frame: solid teak throughout, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: plain oval panel inside a moulded frame, surrounded by pierced foliate carving, with a smaller oval medallion at the crest.

Arms: carved lion heads at both arm fronts on shaped arm rails.

Seat: upholstered in a woven stripe as photographed, over a padded frame.

Apron: pierced and carved scrolling foliage below the seat.

Legs: carved front legs finishing in full paw feet.

Upholstery: any fabric or leather can be used, including your own material.

Finish: bare natural teak as photographed, finished from the tool on the carving. Any polish tone can be matched, and gilded or coloured highlights can be added.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

Bare teak shows marks that a dark polish or a gilded surface would hide, so the packing here is built around never letting anything abrasive touch the wood.

A soft non-abrasive layer goes over every surface first, laid smoothly rather than folded. The lion heads get deep foam collars standing proud of the muzzles, the crest medallion and the shoulders of the pierced surround get their own collars, and foam is fitted into the larger voids of the piercing so the carved bridges cannot flex.

The pierced apron is protected with a continuous foam strip along its length, and the paw feet are collared individually. Corrugated panels then build a rigid shell around the chair, with the base blocked and braced so the weight rests on the seat frame rather than the back, and the outer carton is edge-reinforced so stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging. Everything unwraps by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery is included in the price - no zone rates, no distance surcharge, no freight line at checkout. The chair costs the same delivered to Tirupati as to Dhanbad.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed. It leaves in multi-layer protective packaging, travels with handlers briefed on bare-wood and pierced carving, and is checked at every transfer point. If anything is not right when you open it, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee sits with us, not with the transporter.

Because the chair is carved to order, production begins once your fabric, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. You get a timeline at that point and updates as the chair moves through carving, finishing and upholstery, followed by a dispatch note with an expected delivery window so you can plan for the day it arrives.

The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty. That covers the seat frame, the back frame and its pierced surround, the arm rails carrying the lion heads, the apron and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside it and never expires. Teak's natural oils are why termites leave it alone, and our seasoning and finishing routine is built around preserving them, so the timber is guaranteed for as long as the chair is yours.

On a bare-teak piece the timber itself is the finish, which makes the quality of the wood the whole product - and that is exactly what these terms stand behind. They hold because the chair is made from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who build every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves.
