Carved Teak Temple with Tiered Shikhar and Marble Platform

This is a floor-standing temple for the home in solid teak, finished in a dark walnut polish. The centre of the roofline rises in stepped tiers to a kalash finial in the manner of a southern vimana, with a ribbed dome and a turned finial standing at each corner beside it. Below, a cusped arch pelmet hung with turned drops spans the opening, carried on rope-twist columns with carved elephant brackets at their heads.

The marble platform is generously wide, giving room to place the deities with space around each of them and keep lamps, a thali and the day's offerings forward and to the side. The back panel is left plain so the deities stand clear against it, and the base cabinet holds two carved rosette cupboards flanking two drawers, all on a carved plinth with claw feet. Every Brown Rabbit mandir is made to order, so the size, the shikhar style, the marble, the storage layout and the finish are agreed with you before production and every dimension confirmed in writing. The solid teak and its joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the piece, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

A Southern Roofline, and Room to Lay Things Out

Temple architecture in India speaks in more than one accent. In the north the shikhar curves upward to a point; in the south the vimana rises in stepped tiers, each a little smaller than the one below, to a kalash at the summit. This mandir carries the southern form, flanked by ribbed domes at the corners, and it gives the piece a distinctly different silhouette from the rounded shikhars elsewhere in our range. Families who follow southern practice recognise it immediately, and many others simply prefer the geometry of stepped tiers.

The width of the platform is the second decision, and it is the one you notice every morning. A generous marble surface means the deities can stand with clear space around each of them rather than shoulder to shoulder, the lamps and thali have their own place forward and to the side, and flowers and offerings can be laid out without anything being shifted first. It changes puja from an exercise in fitting things in to something unhurried. Every element here is carved and polished by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs show the actual piece.

Protecting a Tiered Shikhar and Turned Drops

The stepped shikhar and the corner domes stand at the highest points of this mandir, so a rigid frame guard bridges above the entire roofline and every finial is individually wrapped beneath it. Nothing touches the turnings at any stage, and the mandir is carried on its plinth throughout so no load ever runs through the tiers.

The turned drops hanging from the cusped arch pelmet travel with a rigid guard spanning beneath the whole fringe, so no packing material presses against them. The rope-twist columns are wrapped along their length and fitted with half-round guards that follow the outer diameter without pressing into the spiral grooves, and the carved elephant brackets are contour-padded. The marble slab travels separately, laid flat on a full-bearing bed with corner protection, and is seated on site. Dark polished surfaces are faced across their whole area, and drawers and cupboard doors are immobilised. Your mandir arrives dent-free with every finial, drop and column intact.

Free Delivery Across India and On-Site Setup

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and nothing added to your invoice for freight. Production begins once your specification is confirmed, and we give you a realistic completion window at that point. If you are working towards a griha pravesh, a festival or a particular muhurat, tell us the date at enquiry and we will plan the build around it.

Our team assembles the mandir in position, seats the marble slab and levels the plinth, so it arrives fully set up and ready for you to place the deities. Share your doorway, lift and stair measurements at enquiry along with the height available, and we will build the piece to come in comfortably. Traditionally the mandir sits in the north-east of the home with the deities facing west or east, away from bathroom walls and out of direct sunlight, and our team will help you position it to suit whatever your household observes.

Warranty on This Teak Temple

The solid teak and its joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the entire life of the piece with no expiry. The rope-twist columns carry the canopy and the tiered shikhar above it, and they are turned from stock selected for straight continuous grain so the spiral stays strong along its whole length. Both the columns and their joints at capital and base are covered for the full term, as is the base cabinet carrying the marble. Termite cover has no end date because teak resists termites through the oils within the timber.

The polish and the marble are both serviceable surfaces. The marble slab is set in rather than bonded, so it lifts out and a new one goes in without disturbing the carving around it. The polish can be cut back and rebuilt in place rather than stripped, so a dark walnut tone can be kept looking rich decade after decade. We do both for our own mandirs at an honest price whenever you would like the piece refreshed. Keep it indoors, away from standing water and prolonged direct sun, and regular dusting will do the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

It is drawn from the southern temple tradition, where the vimana over a sanctum rises in stepped tiers to a kalash finial rather than curving upward as a northern shikhar does. It gives the piece a distinct geometry, and we also build the curved northern form if you prefer it.

Yes. The same mandir is made with a curved northern shikhar, or with a domed roofline, and we carve whichever suits your household's tradition and your taste. Tell us at enquiry and we will draw it that way.

So the deities can stand with clear space around each of them, and lamps, a thali and the day's flowers all have their own place without anything being shifted first. It makes daily puja unhurried, which is what the extra width is really for.

A damp cloth is all it needs. Marble takes hot diyas, ghee and water offerings in its stride, and because the slab is set in rather than bonded it can be lifted and replaced decades from now without disturbing the carving around it.

Two carved cupboards for thalis, larger samagri boxes and books, and two drawers for daily items such as agarbatti, wicks, matches and kumkum. A different split, deeper cupboards or additional drawers can all be built to order.

Yes to both. Jaali panels at the sides let air move freely through the mandir, and jaali or glass doors give dust protection while keeping the deities visible. We build whichever combination you would like.

Send us the height of your tallest deity including base and crown along with the space you have, and we will size the platform and the canopy clearance around your murtis and confirm every dimension in writing before production.
