A throne chair with a matching footstool, in hand-carved solid teak with maroon upholstery. It is a seat of honour - used in prayer rooms and home temples, at ceremonies and functions, and as a single commanding chair in a hall or entrance where it will be seen every day.

Master Indian artisans carve both pieces by hand from seasoned solid teak. The arched back is filled with foliate work cut from solid stock, the lions are worked in the round so they lie along the arms as full figures, and the apron carries its own carved panels on the front and both sides.

The set is made to order. Choose the upholstery, choose the finish tone, and set the sizes of both pieces. Custom sizes are made to order and final measurements are confirmed in writing before production. It comes with a 20-year warranty on the teak frames and joinery, a lifetime warranty against termite damage, free PAN-India delivery with guaranteed dent-free arrival, and multi-layer protective packaging.

The lions on this chair are lying down, and that is a functional decision before it is an artistic one.

An arm has to be at a particular height and it has to be roughly level, because someone is going to rest a forearm on it. A standing animal puts its spine too high and its back slopes; a seated one puts its head where an elbow wants to go. A lion at rest, stretched along the rail, has a long level topline at exactly the height an arm needs - which is why this pose has been used on seats of honour for centuries, in stone as well as in wood.

The carving follows from that. The block is first cut down to the finished arm height and its top left flat along its length. Only then is the animal drawn onto it, and it has to be drawn so that the line of the back falls on that existing flat. Nothing above that plane survives; the mane, the head and the haunch all rise from it or fall away from it.

What you get is an arm that is genuinely comfortable to use and an animal that does not look flattened - because it was never carved round and then cut down. The flat was there first, and the lion was drawn to include it.

Frames: solid teak throughout on both pieces, hand-carved by master Indian artisans, with traditional joinery at every junction.

Back: tall arch filled with carved scrolling foliage around a shell centre, framing an upholstered panel, under a carved crest.

Arms: resting lions carved in the round along the arm rails, on carved arm blocks.

Seat: upholstered cushion over a solid seat frame.

Apron: deep carved foliate panels across the front and both sides.

Legs: carved cabriole front legs finishing in paw feet.

Footstool: carved base with turned feet and a cushion in the same cloth.

Upholstery: maroon as photographed. Any fabric can be used instead, including your own material.

Finish: natural teak hand polish. Darker tones can be matched, and gilded or coloured highlights can be added.

Size: custom sizes made to order - final measurements confirmed in writing before production, for both pieces.

Photography: images on this page are of the actual product, not renders.

The chair and the stool travel in separate cartons, because nesting the stool against the carved apron would put its weight on exactly the surface that carries the finest work.

On the chair, the lions' heads and paws, the carved crest, the arch edges and the paw feet each get a shaped foam collar. The apron panels are protected with a continuous foam strip along the front and both sides so no pressure lands between the carved elements. A soft non-abrasive layer covers all the polished surfaces first so nothing coarse touches the finish.

Corrugated panels build a rigid shell around each piece, with the chair's base blocked and braced so its weight rests on the seat frame rather than on the arch. The outer cartons are edge-reinforced so stacked weight in transit is carried by the packaging. Both cushions get a breathable cover that keeps dust off without holding moisture against the cloth. Everything unwraps by hand, no blades needed.

Free PAN-India delivery covers both pieces - no zone rates, no distance charges, no separate charge for the stool. The set costs the same delivered to Trichy as to Dehradun.

Dent-free arrival is guaranteed on both. They leave in multi-layer protective packaging, travel with handlers briefed on deeply carved furniture, and are checked at each transfer point. If anything is not right when you open either carton, tell us and we make it right - the guarantee rests with us, not with the transporter.

Because the set is carved to order, production begins once your upholstery, finish and measurements are confirmed in writing. Carving of this depth takes real time, so we give you a realistic timeline rather than an optimistic one, with updates as both pieces progress and a dispatch note with an expected delivery window. If the set is needed for a particular occasion, tell us at enquiry and we will confirm the timeline in writing before you commit.

Both frames - the chair and the footstool - carry a 20-year warranty on the solid teak and its joinery. On the chair that covers the arched back and the joints holding it upright, the seat frame, the lion arms and their blocks, the apron and the carved legs. If a joint opens or a member fails within those twenty years, we repair or replace it.

A lifetime warranty against termite damage runs alongside on both pieces, with no end date. Teak's natural oils are what keep termites away, and our seasoning and finishing process is built around preserving them, so we stand behind the timber for as long as the set is yours.

A seat of honour is usually bought once and kept, and the warranty is written for that. It holds because both pieces are made from start to finish in our own workshop by the master Indian artisans who build every piece we sell, from timber we season ourselves. Registration is automatic with your order; your order number is all a claim ever needs.
