The Story Behind This Sofa

A bespoke sofa order runs through five stages, and knowing them removes most of the anxiety of spending this kind of money on something that does not yet exist.

First, the brief: your room dimensions, total seat count, who uses the room and how, and any constraint like a narrow staircase. Second, the drawing: we return a scaled layout showing each piece, its footprint and the set arrangement, so you can see the sofa in your room before committing. Third, materials: timber is selected and seasoned, fabric swatches are sent physically rather than shown on a screen, because no photograph reproduces colour reliably.

Fourth, the build - carving, then finishing, then upholstery, with progress photographs at each stage so nothing is a surprise at the end. Fifth, delivery and placement by our own team.

The one thing that cannot be compressed is drying and curing time between finishing coats. Rushing it is the single most common cause of a finish that fails within two years, so we do not.

Packaging and Transit Protection

A full set ships as multiple crates, each built to its own piece, and every crate is labelled against the order drawing so nothing is mismatched on site. The rolled arms are protected with standoff foam blocking that bridges over the roll rather than compressing it, since sustained pressure flattens a roll and creases the tufting. The floor-level pierced plinth is foam-cradled along its full length and each piece is crated resting on its frame, never on the plinth.

Upholstery is wrapped in soft breathable cloth with a separate moisture barrier - never sealed plastic against fabric on a long road journey. Carved crests, arm fronts and rosette bosses are individually foam-wrapped and taped clear of the finish. Cushions and bolsters are bagged separately and labelled to their piece, which matters on a large set where cushions look similar but are cut to different sizes. Every crate is corner-guarded, foam-blocked on all faces, marked for orientation and lifting points, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Lead time on a bespoke commission starts from drawing approval, not from enquiry. Typical build time is 9 to 11 weeks for a sofa, extending to 12 to 16 weeks for a full 7 or 9 seater set with chairs and a centre table, since each piece is carved, finished and upholstered individually. Add one to two weeks at the start for drawing and swatch approval, and allow for curing time between finishing coats, which cannot be shortened without compromising the finish.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and elsewhere. Our team unloads, unwraps, places every piece to the approved layout, fits cushions and levels the set. Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the carved plinth and the hand-carving on every piece in the set. If a joint works loose or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Fabric and foam are consumable components covered separately, with terms confirmed against the specific cloth you choose.

On a commissioned set, keep your paperwork. The order drawing, the fabric reference and the finish specification are what allow us to match a replacement piece, add a chair to the set later, or reupholster in the same cloth years from now - all of which is straightforward with the reference and guesswork without it. Day to day: dust the carved work with a dry soft brush, never a cloth on the champagne finish; vacuum upholstery with a brush attachment; blot spills straight down without rubbing; keep the set out of direct sunlight; and lift rather than drag, since the pierced plinth sits at floor level and does not tolerate sideways load.
