Overview

This is a royal luxury handcrafted carved teak wood sofa with an ivory and silver show-wood frame and blue upholstery, photographed as a 3 seater. The design is Rococo in structure and comfort-led in its upholstery: a pierced carved crest rises at the centre, the back is built as a deep button-tufted blue medallion panel flanked by diamond-quilted side panels within carved cartouche frames, the arms sweep outward over carved ivory volutes, and a single long bench seat cushion in blue and gold damask runs the width. Below, a deeply pierced carved apron spans the full length on carved scroll feet.

The blue and ivory scheme is unusual in the Indian luxury market, where gold and cream dominate. It suits a drawing room with marble or pale flooring, a coastal or hill-station property, or a formal room that needs colour without heaviness. Seat firmness, cushion construction, fabric and seater configuration are all set by you at the order stage rather than fixed by the design.

The Story Behind This Sofa

Comfort in a sofa is engineered from the bottom up, and almost none of it is visible in a photograph.

It starts at the seat platform. Webbing or springing is fixed across the seat rails under tension and is what actually carries a person's weight - foam alone sitting on a solid board gives the hard, dead feel that makes an expensive-looking sofa unpleasant after twenty minutes. Tension is set by hand and checked across the full width so the seat does not sag toward the middle where it is used most.

Above that sits the cushion build. A seat cushion is not one block: it is a core with softer layers wrapped around it, so the first impression is soft and the support underneath is firm. Get the ratio wrong and the sofa either feels hard immediately or bottoms out after six months.

Then the tufting. Each button on that back panel is pulled through the padding and tied off behind, compartmentalising the filling so it cannot migrate. Every button is placed by hand to a marked grid - a tufting grid that drifts is visible instantly across a room.

Factual specification for this royal luxury carved teak sofa set:

  • Material: Solid teak wood frame, hand-carved (no veneer, no engineered wood in load-bearing members)
  • Style: Rococo carved show-wood sofa with deep button-tufted back
  • Finish: Ivory hand-painted show wood with silver highlights on the carving; customisable to gold leaf, antique gold, full ivory or dark wood polish
  • Carved detail: Pierced carved crest, carved cartouche frames to the back panels, carved arm volutes, deeply pierced full-width apron, carved scroll feet
  • Upholstery: Deep hand button-tufted centre back panel, diamond-quilted side panels, blue and gold damask bench seat cushion, scatter cushions and tasselled bolster as photographed; fabric, velvet or leather all available
  • Seat construction: Tensioned webbing or spring platform over the seat rails, layered cushion core with softer wrap; seat firmness specified by you - soft, medium or firm
  • Seating: Shown as a 3 seater; made to order as 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape, with matching single chairs
  • Size: Custom dimensions made to order
  • Delivery: Pan-India, free shipping

Packaging and Transit Protection

Tufted upholstery has a specific transit vulnerability: sustained pressure on a tufted panel can crush the padding around the buttons and leave a flattened patch that takes weeks to recover, if it recovers at all. So the back panel is protected with a standoff layer rather than wrapped tight - foam blocking that bridges over the tufting instead of pressing onto it.

The upholstery is covered first in a soft breathable cloth wrap rather than sealed plastic, which would trap moisture against a pale carved frame and coloured fabric on a long road journey. The pierced carved crest, both arm volutes, the full-width apron and the feet are each individually foam-wrapped and taped clear of the painted and silvered surfaces. Loose cushions and the tasselled bolster are bagged separately so they arrive uncrushed, with the tassel wrapped so it cannot snag. The sofa is corner-guarded, blocked into a fitted crate with foam on every face, marked for orientation and lifting points, and photographed sealed before dispatch.

Shipping and Delivery

Every sofa is built to order and comfort is part of the specification. At the order stage we confirm your seat firmness preference, cushion build, seat height and seat depth alongside the fabric and seater count. Typical lead time is 8 to 10 weeks from order confirmation, longer for larger sets since a 7 or 9 seater is several frames carved, finished and upholstered individually. We share progress photographs after carving, after finishing and after upholstery.

Delivery is free anywhere in India - Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and elsewhere. Our team unloads, unwraps, places and levels the sofa and fits the cushions at your address. Please confirm doorway, stair and lift dimensions in advance: a carved show-wood sofa cannot be tilted or squeezed through a tight opening, because the carving takes the load rather than a soft upholstered edge. International orders quoted case by case.

Craftsmanship Assurance and Care

Our craftsmanship assurance covers the solid teak frame, its joinery, the hand-carving and the seat platform. If a joint works loose, a webbing or spring platform fails, or a carved element separates because of a fault in the making - rather than through impact, misuse, standing or jumping on the seat, or an attempted self-repair - we repair or replace it. Foam and fabric are consumable components with their own service life; we confirm those terms at the order stage.

All foam softens with use - this is normal and not a fault. What prevents it becoming uneven is rotation: turn and plump the seat cushion weekly, and alternate which end of the sofa gets used. Do not sit on the arms or the back rail, which loads the frame in a direction it is not designed for. Vacuum the tufted panel with a brush attachment and use a soft brush around the buttons, where dust collects in the folds. Blot spills immediately, never rub. Dust the ivory and silver show wood with a dry soft cloth and brush; never use water, chemical polish or solvent cleaners on the frame or the fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

The seat is built as a firmer core with softer layers wrapped around it, over a tensioned webbing or spring platform - not a single foam block on a board, which feels hard and dead. Firmness is your choice at the order stage: soft, medium or firm. Tell us how you like to sit and we will specify it.

Yes. Each button is pulled through the padding and tied off behind, to a marked grid. That compartmentalises the filling so it cannot migrate into hollows, which is why a properly tufted back keeps its shape. Pressed or stitched imitation tufting looks similar in photographs and behaves very differently.

All foam softens with use - that is normal. Sagging happens when a seat platform loses tension, usually because the frame has moved at its joints. A properly jointed teak frame holds that tension. Rotate and plump the cushions weekly and alternate which end you sit on, and wear stays even.

It depends on who is using it. Deeper seats suit lounging and taller users; shallower seats are easier to rise from, which matters for older family members. Because this is made to order, we set seat height and depth to you rather than to a standard - tell us your preference and we will build to it.

Yes. The show wood can be ivory with silver as shown, gold leaf, antique gold or dark polish, and the upholstery is your choice of fabric, velvet or leather in any colour. Blue and ivory is offered because it suits marble flooring and pale rooms where gold and cream can feel heavy.

Yes. This design is built as a 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 or 9 seater, corner or L shape, with matching single chairs. Tell us your total seat count and room dimensions and we will propose the combination.
