Bow Footboard King Size Bed in Gold Carved Teak

This is a solid teak wood king size bed built around a bowed footboard. Rather than a flat board across the end of the bed, the foot section curves outward in a shallow bow following the line of the base, with an upholstered and deep-buttoned champagne top rail forming a padded edge. The bowed face below it is divided into panels by carved gold pilasters with a carved mask at the centre, and a deep band of foliate carving follows the full curve down to carved feet.

The headboard is arranged as two separately buttoned champagne panels either side of a carved central pilaster, which rises through openwork carving into a tall shell crest. Two matching bedside chests with panelled backs are supplied in the same finish. Every Brown Rabbit bed is made to order, so size, upholstery, the tone of the gold and any base storage are settled before production and the exact dimensions confirmed to you in writing. The solid teak frame and joinery carry a 20-year warranty, termite damage is covered for the life of the bed, delivery anywhere in India is free, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.

Why a Curved Footboard Costs More to Build

A flat footboard is cut from straight stock, carved on one plane and assembled square. A bowed one is a different job entirely. Every element that follows the curve, including the panelled face, the carved pilasters, the mask at the centre and the deep foliate band at the bottom, has to be worked to a radius. The carving cannot be laid out flat and then bent; it is cut into components already shaped to the curve, which means the carver is working on a moving surface and the layout has to be set out to keep the ornament evenly spaced around an arc rather than along a line. Get the spacing wrong and it reads as a mistake from across the room.

The reason to do it is what it does to the room. A flat footboard cuts a hard line across the end of the bed and pushes the eye back. A bow carries the line of the base outward and around, so the bed reads as a single continuous form from headboard to foot instead of three separate planes. The buttoned top rail continues that thought: it turns the highest edge of the footboard, the one people actually sit on and lean against, into a padded surface rather than carved timber. All of it is shaped, carved, gilded and upholstered by hand by master Indian artisans, and the photographs on this page show the actual piece.

Packing Curved Components Without Stressing Them

Curved timber is the one thing you cannot pack flat, and trying to is how curved furniture gets damaged. A bowed footboard laid on a flat surface bears its whole weight on two points at the ends of the arc, and any strap tightened over it applies force exactly where the curve wants to flatten. So this footboard travels in a cradle: foam cut to the radius of the bow, supporting the component evenly along its entire length so no point carries more than its share, with the carved foliate band relieved in the foam so nothing rests on the ornament.

The upholstered top rail travels with no strap across the buttoning, and the gold carving throughout is faced with a soft non-abrasive layer so the burnish is not scuffed anywhere. The openwork above the headboard pilaster is contour-padded so the pierced sections bear no load, and the carved feet are individually guarded. Everything then goes into a rigid strapped crate, and the two bedside chests are boxed separately with drawers immobilised. Cradling a curved component costs more to prepare than packing a flat one and we carry that cost. Your bed arrives dent-free with the curve true and the carving intact, or we make it right.

Free Delivery Across India on This Made-to-Order Bed

Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance surcharge and no freight charge on your invoice. Build time is the thing to plan around, and this design takes longer than its flat-footed equivalents because every element of the bowed section has to be shaped to a radius before it can be carved, and the ornament has to be set out to space evenly around the arc. That is skilled layout work before a single chisel cut is made. We give you a realistic window once your specification is confirmed, and if you are working to a fixed date we will tell you at enquiry whether it can be met.

The bed ships in cradled multi-layer packing under our dent-free arrival guarantee, and you are kept informed from dispatch to arrival. Our team assembles it in the bedroom and we ask you to check the curve of the footboard, the gold finish and the buttoning while they are still present so anything you are unhappy with is raised on the spot. A bowed footboard is deeper front to back than a flat one, so give us your room length as well as its width at enquiry, and mention any narrow staircase, small lift or tight doorway so the frame can be built to break down accordingly.

Structural Cover on a Curved Frame

The solid teak frame and joinery are guaranteed for 20 years from delivery, and termite damage is covered for the life of the bed with no expiry. A curved footboard is structurally more demanding than a flat one, because the load path through a bowed section is not straight and the joints where the curve meets the side rails are working at an angle rather than square. Those joints are cut and pinned rather than screwed, and they are covered for the full term. Termite cover runs indefinitely because teak resists termites through oils in the timber rather than through an applied treatment that wears off, and every board is seasoned and treated before carving.

The champagne upholstery, the foam, the buttoning and the gold finish sit outside the structural warranty. The buttoned top rail of the footboard will see more contact than any other upholstered surface on this bed, because it is exactly where people sit, and it will show that over time. We say so rather than leave you to find out. We reupholster and re-gild our own beds at any point in their life at an honest price, and because we shaped and carved these components we can remake a section of the curved carved band without replacing the whole footboard. Keep the bed indoors, out of sustained direct sun, and do not modify the frame.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this product.

It is a footboard that curves outward on a shallow arc instead of running flat across the end of the bed. Every element in it, including the carved band, has to be shaped to the radius before carving, and the ornament has to be laid out to space evenly around the curve. It is considerably more work than a flat foot end.

Yes, a bow adds depth at the foot of the bed compared with a flat board. Give us your room length as well as its width at enquiry and we will confirm the overall footprint in writing before production, or reduce the depth of the curve if the room is tight.

Because that edge is where people sit to put on shoes and where legs rest against the bed. Padding and buttoning it turns the highest point of the footboard into a comfortable surface instead of a carved wooden edge. It is the one upholstered area on this bed that sees daily contact.

A single panel across a king width reads as a flat board. Two shaped buttoned panels either side of a carved pilaster give the headboard a silhouette and let the openwork crest sit properly above the centre line. It also means each panel can be buttoned tighter, which holds its shape better over time.

Yes. The same carving works in a single ivory or champagne tone with no metallic highlight, which reads far quieter and suits rooms that already have gold fittings elsewhere. We can also execute it in antique gold, silver or rose gold.

Yes, though the shape of the base means drawer storage is set within the straight side sections rather than at the curved foot. Box and hydraulic storage are unaffected. Specify this before production, since the base is framed differently for each option and cannot be converted later.

The bed and two matching bedside chests with panelled backs. Delivery is free anywhere in India with no distance charge. The bowed footboard travels in a foam cradle cut to its radius so it is supported evenly along its length, and dent-free arrival is guaranteed.
